Inside the Flying Snow Inn of Thermesae, a dwarven cleric by the name of Ozadinius finishes his meal and ale and starts upstairs to rest for the night, for his journey ahead is long; but his rest is postponed by the sound of a crow cawing from the stairwell. Recognizing this as an illegal casting of a spell, he peers around the room spotting a shady figure in the corner of the common room moving his lips carefully and concentrating on the stairwell. He confronts the lawbreaker and calls guards to arrest him. However the shady man reveals himself to be Adak, mage from the Gandalf Wars. He is released and the dwarf and mage continue to bicker. A cute sly-looking gnome known as Ophelia watches from afar seated at her table, but readying herself for any sign of excitement.
The group is brought together by a man, hooded and cloaked. The man speaks of a “task” that he needs be undertaken by a group of able adventurers, of which the description seems to fit they’re profiles. He instructs them to meet him outside the Inn’s doors the next morning. The group accepts the invitation.
The next morning, he reveals himself to be Arathillius the Traveling Scholar. He instructs them to head for the nearby town of Therma in which they must meet with a Fighters Guild member for further instructions of their “task”. They are reinforced by Dilios the Drifting Cat, an adventurer from Kharazan in the west hired as a mercenary for the purpose of this undertaking.
Upon reaching Therma, the group encounters Gron-kol a half-orc from the Fighters Guild, just as promised by Arathillius. He tells them of horrid attacks on the town by a clan of Kobolds and that if they were to head north-east and into the forested alcoves of the iron forest at the base of the iron hills, they would likely discover the lair of these foul creatures and be able to abolish them from the land and free the townspeople of their nightmares.
They set out the following morning in search of the lair of the Kobold clan. Along their way, they are engaged by two Kobold scouts atop a small cliff to the north of the road. However the weakless scouts proved no match for the adventuring party as Ophelia’s, Ozadinius’, and Adak’s skills with ranged weapons and spells proved too much for the Kobolds to handle, and they fell to the ground dead from their perch. No items of interest were found, however upon analyzing the equipment the group learns from their encounter and continues onward. Ozadinius was badly wounded in the battle, however he healed himself. Ophelia was also wounded, but Ozadinius healed her as well. Dilios mostly keeps to himself, often darting ahead quickly, but found roughly a half-hour later resting beside the road awaiting the party.
Finally, after a half-day’s journey, the group enters a secret alcove, a large boulder amidst the center beneath the great iron cliffs to the north. At the base of the boulder is a gaping hole large enough to fit a person. Dilios darts up to the hole and explains that the cavern below appears to be deep enough that it would be wisest to use a rope to decend. They concur and each lower themselves into the dungeon.
Now below all dirt, grass, and stone, Ozadinius, Ophelia, Adak, and Dilios delve deeper into the passageways of the accursed cavern, Adak’s spell of light guiding their way through the pitch-darkness of the evil lair. They come across a scouting group of Kobolds in a small armory-like room. Ozadinius splatters several of the Kobolds against the wall, Dilios cuts his target in two, and Adak and Ophelia cut through the remainders of the assault. The last Kobold attempts to run for his life and alert the rest of the clan, but is cut short…
